Shoot for the Moon

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars.” – Les Brown

This well-known quote reminds us that aiming higher expands your world; by contrast, aiming low keeps your world small.

Many people stay within the boundaries of what feels comfortable because it feels safe. But comfort can also become an invisible cage. When you only go for what’s easy or familiar, you rob yourself of the growth and opportunities that live just beyond your present limitations. Staying small may feel secure in the moment, but in the long run, it keeps you from experiencing the richness of the life you were created for.

Go Beyond Comfort

Growth requires stretch and demands a little discomfort. It often invites you into spaces your current self doesn’t quite feel fully ready for. In times past, God regularly called people into goals and assignments far bigger than their present capacity. They were ordinary people who dared to believe in the extraordinary. Their greatness wasn’t in their credentials; it was in their willingness to step beyond comfort. The same is true today.

When you expand your thinking and raise your expectations, something inside you awakens. Your perspective widens. Your potential is unlocked. You begin to notice opportunities you were previously blind to because your vision was too small to recognise them. In other words, you begin to rise towards the level of what you believe is possible.

Stop Playing Small

Playing small benefits no one – not your purpose, not your future, not the people your gifts are meant to impact. When you stay in familiar territory, your world stays small. But when you challenge yourself, when you raise your goals and allow yourself to stretch, you begin to uncover strengths and gifts you never realised were there.

Even if you miss the moon, you’ll land somewhere far more expansive than where you began. Sometimes, you may even surpass the moon altogether, rising higher than what you (or anyone else) ever expected. That’s the beauty of stretching yourself: the moment you stop playing small and start aiming higher you unlock treasure you didn’t even know was available to you.

But if you aim low… chances are you’ll stay on the ground.

Aim Higher

You simply need the courage to take the first step. As soon as you do, the path becomes clearer. The ideas start coming. The opportunities show up. Provision finds you on the journey. With each step, your confidence grows as you realise you are capable of far more than you once believed. It’s the willingness to accept the challenge that reveals what’s truly possible.

So set the bigger goal this time. Say yes to the dream that scares you a little. Let faith pull you higher than fear wants to keep you down. Don’t play small when you were created for more.
